From Brooklyn, New Jersey is close: Jersey City, Hoboken and Bayonne are a short drive away. But a move across the Hudson is not just a longer local move. It crosses a state line, and that changes a few things you should know before you book.

It is an interstate move
New York to New Jersey, or back, crosses a state line, so the mover needs a U.S. DOT number. Ours is 967970 (MC-432549). You can look up any mover for free on the FMCSA website before you book.

Get it in writing
Ask for a written estimate before moving day: the rate, the terms and what is included. Ours is free, in person or by video, 7 days a week.

Two buildings, two sets of rules
Book the elevator and ask about the certificate of insurance (COI) on both ends. Brooklyn buildings often have set move hours, and New Jersey buildings can ask for a COI too. Send us both buildings’ requirements and we send the COIs. Moving out of a new building? Our guide to Williamsburg and Greenpoint buildings covers move reservations and loading.

Plan the parking
Street rules change from town to town. Check the street in front of both homes and tell us what you find, so the truck can stop close to the door on both sides of the river.

New license, new plates
Moving to New Jersey: transfer your driver license and car registration within 60 days. Moving to New York: exchange your license within 30 days. Put it on your list for the week after the move.

NY and NJ, both ways
We are licensed movers in both states (U.S. DOT No. 967970 · MC-432549 · NYSDOT 34875 · NJPM 000930) and a family business since 1999. Call (929) 339-6014 or send the quote form on our home page. Our company facts page lists our licenses and links.

Your NY to NJ checklist
- Check the mover’s U.S. DOT number on the FMCSA website before you book.
- Get the written estimate, with the rate and the terms, before moving day.
- Book the elevator and ask for the COI sample on both ends.
- Check the parking rules in front of both homes.
- After the move: license and registration within 60 days in New Jersey, or the license within 30 days in New York.
We move people both ways across the Hudson. From Brooklyn, the truck route and the time of day matter as much as the miles, so tell us your preferred start time and we plan the day around the crossing.
