Bushwick and Bedford-Stuyvesant are mostly rowhouses, brownstones and walk-up buildings. Many apartments are railroad layouts, one room behind another, with a single narrow staircase to the street. That shapes everything about the move: what fits, how long it takes and how you should pack.
Railroad apartments and long hallways
In a railroad apartment the crew carries everything through every room. Clear a straight path from the back room to the front door the night before, and take down anything hanging low in the hallway.
Stairs: small boxes win
On a four-floor walk-up, box size matters more than box count. Books, records and kitchen items go in small boxes; clothes and bedding in medium ones. A heavy large box is slow on stairs and more likely to break.
- Send photos of the stair turns and the apartment door with your estimate request.
- Tell us the floor on both ends and whether either building has an elevator.
- Mark boxes with the room and “heavy” where it applies.
Getting around for a truck
The Jackie Robinson Parkway, which links this part of Brooklyn with Queens, is closed to commercial vehicles, along with the Belt and Grand Central parkways (with one short exception for small trucks on the Grand Central), according to NYC DOT: parkway restrictions for commercial vehicles. Moving trucks use the city’s truck routes and interstates such as I-278 instead (NYSDOT: highways for commercial traffic).
Moving between Brooklyn and Queens
Many moves from Bushwick go to Ridgewood, Glendale or further into Queens. These are local New York moves under our NYSDOT license 34875. The written estimate should list the floors, any long carry and the furniture we take apart and put back together.
Roommate moves
Many moves here involve roommates moving out at different times. Label each person’s boxes with their name and color, and agree on who keeps the shared furniture before moving day. It keeps the load organized and the unloading fast.
Brownstones and rowhouses in Bed-Stuy
Bed-Stuy’s brownstone blocks have the same stoops and tight turns as Park Slope. Measure the turns and send photos. Ask your landlord whether the front door can stay open during loading and where the truck can stand.
What to put in your estimate request
Both addresses, floor numbers, the stair photos and your three largest pieces. The estimate is free and in writing.

- Change your address with USPS and allow at least 7 to 10 business days (USPS: change your address).

Questions we hear
What is the hardest part of a walk-up move?
Usually one big piece on a tight staircase. Measure the turns and send photos so the crew can plan to take it apart if needed.
Can moving trucks use the Jackie Robinson Parkway?
No. NYC DOT lists it among the parkways closed to commercial vehicles.
Is Bushwick to Queens a local move?
Yes, it stays in New York, so it is a local move under our NYSDOT license.
